Wooten, Virginia| High School English Teacher

All students have previously been enrolled in my Canvas classroom.

Canvas is the same type of system as Google Classroom, but with more tools and organization. Here you will find the majority of our assignments. I will begin starting Monday, posting an announcement daily describing what we are doing in class that day. This will help students who were absent catch up. I also will link most of the activities so that they can access them from home.

This is a private text messaging system where I do not have student’s phone numbers and they do not have mine. I send reminders for big due dates (tests, projects, quizzes) and in the beginning, I have been reminding students about their nightly HW.

There is just something wonderful about teaching that pulls me into my classroom every single day. I even find myself searching for new and exciting activities from professionals around the globe, even when I am already planned for the next several weeks.

I love reading and learning about exciting curriculum and practices that I can bring into my own classroom. I love technology and have a strong drive to teach students how to utilize it to help them become successful. I want students to become interested in the world around them and I encourage this through reading. I set aside time weekly to help students find topics that interest them to try and develop a love of reading.

I was born in Statesville. Growing up, I loved to be involved in everything that I could. In high school, I did marching band, swim team, soccer, and Student Council (among other things) and served as Vice President. In the summers, I love swimming at the pool, lake, and beach.

I graduated from Western Carolina University with a double major in English and English Education. I was also a member of the Pride of the Mountains Marching Band. Here, I also joined several clubs and stayed heavily involved. Post college, I married my high school sweetheart, Adam Wooten, and began my career as a teacher. I have two fur babies: Milo(kitty) and Maddie(puppy).
