Head of School Announces Middle School Director

In July 2020 when the New Hope Road location transitions to a 5th through 8th grade campus, Piedmont Community Charter School Elementary Assistant Director, Sheila Richards, will step into the role of Middle School Director. Head of School, Jennifer Purdee, shares, “I am thankful to have such an experienced leadership team that is committed to servant leadership for the staff, students and families at Piedmont.”

After teaching various middle school subjects for six years, Mrs. Richards was hired by Piedmont in 2012 to teach 8th grade science. It was only a year later when the opportunity to become the Assistant Director at the elementary campus became available. She has held this position for the past 7 years. Mrs. Richards says, “At Piedmont, I love the academic challenge of our curriculum taught to our students. I love the visual and performing arts that are offered. I love the student culture of acceptance and inclusion. I believe we have the hardest working staff, that continuously looks for ways to improve their craft.  And I love the families who allow us to work with their children on a daily basis.”

Mrs. Richards holds certification to teach elementary as well as middle school language arts, math, science and social studies.  She got her start in education with # years as an elementary teacher. She received her masters in School Administration from Gardner-Webb University.  Not only has she taught in elementary and middle school settings, she already knows the names of many of Piedmont’s middle school students after years of welcoming them each morning at the elementary campus. She shares, “I have always thought my administrative duties lend me the chance to help the students with positive role-modeling and at the same time lifting the teachers up with the knowledge that their job is important and valuable.”  Mrs. Richards is married to Matthew Richards and manages to coordinate a household of 5 children.

Piedmont’s elementary campus (K-4)
will continue under the leadership of Holly White, who has sixteen years in education.  The 2020-2021 school year will be Mrs. White’s eighth year as the Director of the elementary campus. Piedmont’s high school campus will be led by Mr. Bridges, a 35-year education veteran.  Their commitment to academic excellence and his passion for athletics are huge assets to Piedmont.
