Sunday Night Message 8/30/20
Good evening Patriots! This is Mrs. Richards with your Sunday night message for the week of August 30th.
The first week of school was an eventful one to put it mildly! I feel we have begun to successfully navigate getting back into the routine of learning despite any technology issues. Our IT department was working on the wifi at the end of last week, we are hopeful live lessons will run smoother. Thank you for being patient with us.
I do have some information to share with you:
The two are changes to our staff:
Our Spanish teacher, Ms. Claudio’s last day as a PCCS Patriot was Friday. We wish her the best of luck as she transitions to CMS. For right now, there will be no live Spanish lessons as Mr. Benfield and I are actively looking for a teacher to fill that hole in electives.
Beginning on September 8th, we will be welcoming Mr. Jonathan Gunter. Mr. Gunter is joining us from Gaston Christian and will be working with the 5th graders in music and 6th grade band students. Mr. Dunlevy will still meet with them until Mr. Gunter begins.
Next, I want to make you aware that we are taking extra security precautions with our live Zoom lessons.
Please pay extra attention when you are logging into Zoom. Zoom will ask for the meeting code and your name before it asks for the password. This is different from last year.
I have instructed teachers not to allow anyone into class who does not have their name displayed. It can be your first name and last initial.
Teachers will give a 5 minute window of time between the start of class and when they lock their meeting room. This should prevent any outside people from coming into class and disrupting instruction. This will start on Tuesday.
If you are unable to attend live lessons, teachers will record their instruction and post it on google classroom.
Lastly, in the Spring, the time for learning was different, students were instructed from 8-12 and teachers had office hours in the afternoon. This is not the case now. We are running on a full instructional day, 8-3. Students will have access to their teacher during their specific class block of time. Once instruction has ended, office hours begin for that block.
We hope everyone rested this weekend and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow. Have a great night!
